Jharkhand woman ends 30-year 'Maun Vrat' on Ram temple inauguration in Ayodhya

In a historic and poignant moment, 85-year-old Saraswati Devi from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, is set to break her thirty-year-long 'Maun Vrat' (vow of silence) following the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22. Saraswati Agarwal initiated her silence fast three decades ago, pledging to end it only when the Ram temple was constructed.

Having received an invitation from the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya to participate in the Pran Pratishta ceremony, Saraswati Devi, accompanied by her brother, embarked on her journey to Ayodhya on Monday. The ceremony is scheduled for January 22, and she will conclude her vow by uttering the words 'Ram, Sitaram' on that auspicious day.

Saraswati Devi's journey began in 1992, the year of the Babri Masjid demolition, when she met Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, the head of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. Inspired by Swami Nritya Gopal Das, she undertook a pilgrimage to circumambulate Kamtanath mountain, spending seven and a half months in Kalpavas. Since then, she dedicated her life to the study of religious texts and maintained her vow of silence.

The invitation from the Shri Ram Temple signifies the fulfillment of her decades-long penance. As thousands of devotees from across the country prepare to witness the historic inauguration on January 22, Saraswati Devi's breaking of silence becomes a remarkable moment of devotion and commitment.
